The modern shortboard is typically in the 6 foot range and under range and is made for aggressive surfing in critical sections of the wave. It is the most performance oriented of the board categories and is most suited for intermediate to advanced surfers looking to push the boundries of progressive surfing.  Shortboards are most commonly seen with sharp pointy noses, thinner rails, and high rocker.  Shortboards are designed for use in competition at the highest levels and can be ridden in waves from waist high to double overhead.
